The WSAZ investigation, False Security, stemmed from two fires with where firefighters didn’t have enough water to fight the blazes in Charleston and Danville, West Virginia. The investigation looked into the issue of low water pressure and lack of regular testing of fire hydrants.
All of that ultimately led to the passage of House Bill 5617. Governor Justice signed the legislation Wednesday and credited WSAZ NewsChannel 3 with bringing the issue to the state’s attention. The legislation authorized PSC to adopt national standards to strengthen hydrant rules and reliability.
