After a year of original reporting on a disturbing pattern hiding in the open, in 2024, WBBM-TV launched a call to action in our station initiative, Investigating Injustice: Black Women at Risk. We began with a 30-minute data-driven investigation underscoring how Black women were bearing the brunt of violent crime in Chicago. Then came a 90-minute live town hall with participation from city leaders, advocates and top law enforcement officials including the DA and Superintendent of Police. We followed with more reporting, a PSA campaign promoting our Resource Guide for survivors, and a pledge from Chicago’s Mayor to create change.
